Structure Jacking & Load Transfers / Bearing Replacements

The massive 500ft two span continuous bridge built in the 80’s suffering from corrosion of the abutment bearings and required a modification of the bearing scheme as the NBL and SBL decks needed to be connected for the extension of the I-66 EBL turn lanes. OTB Contracting was hired to design and implement the bridge jacking and bearing replacement operations required by VDOT engineer to achieve the repairs and improvements to a well known traffic hot spot.The bridge was jacked in stages prior to the deck connection a total of 69 bridge bearings replaced. Minor concrete repairs and structural steel repairs/modifications were also part of the scope performed.
