VDOT Sleepy Hollow Rd Bridge Repairs 2012

Structure Jacking & Load Transfers / Structural Steel Repairs

The 120ft single span bridge built in the sixties was suffering from extreme corrosion to it main girders and end diaphragms. OTB Contracting was hired to perform all the structural steel repairs, replacement and strengthening to restore the safety and ratings of the bridge. Damaged beam ends were strengthened with additional plates attached with structural bolting and epoxy resin. End stiffeners were detached and new ones welded in and all end diaphragms replaced by new. The bridge was then jacked and bearing replaced (total of 16 bridge bearings & 16 pedestals replaced). Minor concrete repairs and waterproofing were also part of the scope performed.
